Privacy policy

Which data xdomotics processes, why and for how long, which cookies it sets and which rights you have. Google Analytics only with your consent.

Last updated on 9 October 2026 (version 1).

You read guides about Home Assistant on xdomotics.nl, and you don't have to share anything about yourself to do so. Still, a visit involves a little data. This policy explains which data that is, why it is needed and how long it is kept.

Rocket Science B.V. is responsible

www.xdomotics.nl is a website of Rocket Science B.V. That company is therefore the controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  • Rocket Science B.V.
  • Top Naefflaan 56, 1403 GB Bussum, the Netherlands
  • Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number 68760205
  • VAT identification number NL8575.79.770B01
  • Privacy questions: email@rocketsciencebv.nl

On your first visit you see a cookie notice with three buttons: Reject, Accept and Customize. Under Customize you choose per category.

  • Necessary is always on, because without this cookie the site cannot remember your choice.
  • Analytics turns on Google Analytics, so the site can measure which articles you read.
  • Marketing is not used by the site at the moment. Accept turns this category on as well, but for now nothing extra loads, not from Google either.

Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics only load after you have given consent for analytics. Until then the site sends nothing to Google, not even anonymous measurements.

You don't have to give consent: you can use the site without giving consent. No law or contract requires you to provide any data.

The site stores your choice for 12 months in the xd_consent cookie. You can change it or withdraw your consent at any time through "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw your consent for analytics, the site deletes the _ga cookies right away. If Google Analytics had already loaded, the site reloads the page so it stops at once.

What Google Analytics measures when you allow it

With your consent, Google Analytics 4 measures through Google Tag Manager how you use the site:

  • which pages you view and how far you read an article;
  • clicks on affiliate links and in the navigation;
  • search terms you use in the site's search;
  • how fast pages load and respond (Core Web Vitals).

Google Analytics tells visitors apart by a random number in the _ga cookie. The site does not send your name or email address. This shows which articles are useful and where the site can improve.

Google Analytics is set up so that as little data as possible goes to Google:

  • Google Ireland Limited processes the data as a processor, so on behalf of Rocket Science B.V. Google's data processing terms (Google Ads Data Processing Terms) have been accepted.
  • Google may transfer data to the United States. That transfer falls under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
  • Google signals is off.
  • The data sharing settings in Google Analytics are off, including sharing with Google for Google's own products and services.
  • Google Analytics does not collect granular location and device data.
  • Google Analytics deletes user-level and event-level data after 14 months.
  • Visits by the site owner on their own devices are not counted, because those devices carry an xd_internal flag in the browser's local storage.

Marketing: nothing at the moment

The site uses no marketing cookies or advertising pixels. If that ever changes, this policy is updated first. The site then asks for your consent again, and only sets something once you give it.

Server logs at Hetzner, for security only

The site runs on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany (Falkenstein data centre). For every request the server records your IP address and technical details of your request, such as the time and your browser. Those logs are needed to detect and fend off attacks. The site therefore uses them for security only and keeps them as short as possible.

Newsletter: there is none right now

The site does not offer a newsletter at the moment. If it ever does, this policy is updated first and gets a new version number. That version will name the newsletter service that processes your email address. Where needed, the site asks for your consent again.

Some articles contain affiliate links. If you click one, you go to an online shop that may set its own cookies. That shop's privacy policy applies there, not this one. If you buy something through such a link, xdomotics may receive a commission.

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) for analytics cookies and for marketing once there is any. If you withdraw your consent, the processing stops. What was processed before remains lawful.
  • Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for the server logs, because the site has to stay secure. The same applies to the xd_consent choice cookie, because without it the site cannot remember your choice. That cookie needs no consent, because it is a functional cookie (Article 11.7a of the Dutch Telecommunications Act).

The site does not use automated decision-making or profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects on you (Article 22 GDPR).

The cookies and storage the site uses

Name Category Retention Purpose
xd_consent Necessary 12 months Remembers your cookie choice
_ga Analytics 13 months Tells visitors apart
_ga_0HX9XH3770 Analytics 13 months Keeps the state of your session

The _ga cookies are only set if you allow analytics. In addition, xd_internal sits in local storage (localStorage), but only on the site owner's devices. It never ends up on your device.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data. You can also ask for restriction of processing and for transfer of your data (data portability). You withdraw your consent through "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. For the other rights, email email@rocketsciencebv.nl, and you get an answer within one month.

You may object. You can always object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on legitimate interest, such as the server logs (Article 21 GDPR). Send an email to the same address.

If you disagree with how your data is handled, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

Changes appear here, with a date

If this policy changes, the new date appears at the top of this page. If a new cookie or a new service that receives data is added, the policy also gets a new version number. The site then asks everyone for consent again.
